PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
It is an honour and privilege that I will be serving as President of the Crowsnest Pass Taxpayers Association. Crowsnest Pass is the gateway to the beauty and majesty of the mountains, surrounding area for all those who live here and for those who travel through. A special place, it is essential to acknowledge that this valley is home for wildlife, plants and people, to support livelihoods and communities, to carry culture and history, and to provide space to breathe and relax. Our storied landscape is witness to thousands of years of history – from early nomadic people, to First Nations communities and to the establishment of coal towns. There are significant benefits of a Rocky Mountain community which shares proximity between the urban and wildland environments. This reality means that growth must be managed sensibly so that the delicate harmony between built and natural environments is retained for the enjoyment of future generations.
Many concerns and much unrest, regarding the decisions being made by our local government, has conveyed the need to re-establish the Crowsnest Pass Taxpayers Association. Excessive spending, high taxes and ineffectual public participation are foremost. Unfair procedural processes have created apprehension and unease among constituents indicating a need for a responsible and efficacious governance model in the Crowsnest Pass. One which commits to public engagement that values accountability, respect, and is inclusive and responsive to the expectations of its residents. A lack of transparency, which ensures public disclosure that affects and impacts the lives of its citizens, taxpayers and its communities, is incommodious. There is value in seeking effective ways of bringing citizens together that invites resolution to issues.
The Taxpayers’ Association has revitalized itself as an organization with purpose, mission, vision and values. We are an executive that appreciates Crowsnest Pass as a vibrant community and acknowledge that it is the voice of the people that guides and enhances a vision for positive growth and change. Monthly member meetings are advertised through our Facebook and Instagram social media platforms, as well as, on the Crowsnest Pass Taxpayers’ Association website, membership email and public billboards. We welcome and invite you to become a member.
